In mid-October students from Echo Loder, Agnes Risley, Ray Gomm, and Veterans Memorial elementary schools will work together to launch several weather balloons into the stratosphere. These balloons will carry both still and video cameras along with GPS equipment along with them. Our hope for this launch is to gather images of the Earth as seen from near space and to learn more about the layers of Earth's atmosphere and how air density makes the balloon rise. Later in the year, we will use what we learn in the October launch to conduct a second balloon launch. This goal of this later launch will be to encourage students to design their own experiments relating to atmospheric science to be launched with the balloons. These balloons will carry scientific equipment and student designed experiments to allow the students to collect a variety of information. During the course of this year we will be collecting ideas for experiments to be launched with the balloon. If you have an idea for an experiment please post it to the blog page linked in the menu.
